The study will use the Unity game engine to create a crime scene (the scene) virtual. To be accurate, the virtual scene using data obtained from three-dimensional scanning laser based on the real scene.
Later, the virtual scene will be combined in a web page along with other information such as fingerprints, DNA testing and investigative records.
North Carolina State University has received assistance of USD 1.4 million from the National Science Foundation to develop collaborative forensic tool. The technology they developed called ‘Interdisciplinary’, cyber-enabled crime reconstruction through innovative methodology and engagement’ aka IC-CRIME.
Unity game engine is used in IC-CRIME has long been used in various games. Unity is not as popular as other games such as Unreal engine or Source (game engine used by Counter Strike), but Unity is often used to bring 3D technology on the web.
